The Alpe d’Huez Triathlon is fortunate enough to have a dedicated in-house team to oversee the smooth running of the races and the application of the rules.

These men and women are not just race referees, they are the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon Watchers.

The Team

Following the decision to part ways with the French Triathlon Federation, the Watchers were launched last year for the 2019 edition. The team is made up of triathlon fanatics, mostly athletes themselves, who are dedicated to ensuring the participants reach their goals under the best conditions and that they respect the values of the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon.

Missions and Priorities

Triathlete Safety

The Watchers are there to accompany the participants and ensure their safety during the duration of the events. Their job is to be vigilant about potential problems or external factors that could arise on the day, as well as to keep an eye on the triathletes, whose actions could be dangerous to themselves or others.

The Environment

The Watchers take the environment very seriously, and will hand out penalties to any participant who doesn’t respect the ‘clean zones’ put in place by the organisational team. They are particularly hot on enforcing this at the food and drink points.

Sports(wo)manship

The Watchers ensure that everyone sticks to the fundamental rules of the triathlon, and they take into consideration the particular nature of the race, and adapt their level of tolerance to the competitive circumstances.

The Values of the Watchers and the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon

Goodwill

Being at the triathletes side to accompany them through the race, with the noble goal of giving them the best experience possible.

Rigor

Applying the rules and regulations of the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon, embodying the standards set down by the organisational team and ensuring the participants follow them too.

Respect

Ensuring the triathletes are respectful while also respecting the triathletes themselves. Constructive criticism and empathy are their main tools!
