FAN ZONE: the concept

Dear spectators, everything is ready to give participants in the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon an unforgettable experience: our FAN ZONE await you. In collaboration with our partner OVERSTIM.S, you will find everything you need in our FAN ZONE to cheer on your favourite triathletes and give them the extra energy they will need to complete their challenge. Strategically located at the start and finish of the Alpe Express cable cars, they are easily accessible from the finish area.

Fan zone Bike OVERSTIM·S

Cheer on the participants during the ascent of the 21 bends. Located in Huez between bends nº7 and nº6, the FAN ZONE OVERSTIM.S is the place where you can join in with the participants at a decisive moment in the race!
By taking the (free) Alpe Express telecabine, you can cheer on the triathletes in the FAN ZONE OVERSTIM.S and make your way back to the transition area and the finish line, even before the bike/run transition… without using your car!

Fan zone RUN

Enjoy our FAN ZONE located on the running loop. The concept remains the same: the new FAN ZONE RUN focuses the enthusiasm of the public in one place. Thrills are guaranteed for participants, and entertainment is guaranteed for spectators with music and festivities to liven up the atmosphere. At the bottom of the Alpe Express cable cars, the FAN ZONE RUN lets spectators returning from the FAN ZONE OVERSTIM.S cheer on the triathletes in both directions: those who have just left T2 and those who are on their way back to the finish line.

The best fan experience is to become a volunteer!

3 tips to make the most of the experience

1

If you’re at the start of the race, on the shores of Lac du Verney, enjoy the atmosphere before heading back to Alpe d’Huez and wait for the last competitor to leave so that you can cheer him or her properly… and avoid disrupting the flow of the race.

2

It is forbidden to follow the riders on the cycling course! Numerous timing points will enable you to locate each participant along the 118km (via the timing platform). Thanks to this tracking system, you’ll be able to get perfectly organised, taking your time at l’Alpe d’Huez to reach our new FAN ZONE at the perfect moment.

3

Enjoy the running course!
The 6.4km loop, to be run 3 times, offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the race. There’s plenty of time to venture out and cheer on the runners and get back to the finish line just in time.

Triathlon M – 29 July

EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TRAFFIC DURING THE TRIATHLON M.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE CAR!

Total closure of the road to all vehicles in both directions from the swim start at Lac du Verney T1 to the Allemond village exit from 2.00 pm to 3.20 pm
Road closure in the opposite direction to the race from Alpe d’Huez > Le Bourg-d’Oisans (21 bends) from 2.15pm to 5pm

3 tips to make the most of the experience

1

Don’t go down to Lac du Verney for the start : you’ll be stuck in the valley, which could ruin your chances of following the race! What if you were to experience a “different” start, alongside us? Every year, more and more of you join us for LIVE coverage on the organisation’s giant screen in the Village Expo by Dacia Auto Dauphiné.

NOTE: a fixed camera, accessible on our timing platform, shows you the exit from the first transition.

2

The FAN ZONE has been specially designed for the Triathlon M! It’s up to you to create an extraordinary atmosphere that will transcend the participants and remind them that they’re climbing a Tour de France legend.

3

The most intense finish line
The finish of the M Triathlon is the most intense of the week, where the party quickly takes precedence over the competition. Don’t miss this emotionally-charged moment at the end of the event.

Duathlon – 26 July

Road closure in the opposite direction to the race from Alpe d’Huez > Le Bourg-d’Oisans (21 bends) from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Bourg d’Oisans town centre closed from the start to the bottom of the Alpe d’Huez climb from 2.50pm to 4.00pm

3 tips to make the most of the experience

1

If you decide to attend the start and drive to Bourg d’Oisans, don’t wait for the first transition to get back on the road towards Alpe d’Huez. As soon as the first participants arrive in the transition park, traffic will be severely disrupted!

2

Don’t miss the second bike/run transition. The layout of the second transition park at Alpe d’Huez means that the public can experience this crucial moment as close to the action as possible. In this sprint format, the transitions are the most impressive of the week! You can access this public zone via the Village Expo by Dacia Auto Dauphiné.

3

Sprint finish
Be careful, don’t stray too far, the Alpe d’Huez Duathlon running course is short and the participants are fast. Keep your ears open for the speakers, who are ready to light up the first finish line of the week.

Please respect the participants and the organisation:
please stay off the cycling routes!

REASON 1

The Alpe d’Huez Triathlon takes place in the mountains. The roads used for the cycling courses are difficult to access (on the other hand, the running loop is a delight for the public!). Although the traffic is open, it is perilous and pointless (and even impossible) to follow the competitors on the cycling circuits. Better to use our timing platform and our various streams to follow the race. Be reasonable: leave the road to the competitors.

REASON 2

Following a participant with a vehicle not only spoils the experience and the peace of mind of competitors in general, it also puts their lives in danger.

REASON 3

Any competitor followed by friends or supporters risks direct disqualification. The race referees (“Watchers”) will be particularly uncompromising in this edition.
