It’s time to get back to it! After the end of the new year celebrations break, it’s time to start again, with the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon at the end of July in mind. If the motivation is there, be careful not to go back too fast and too hard. The IDO Sport team offers you its 5 training tips to best negotiate this sometimes tricky turn that will condition your season. Furthermore, the training plans designed by IDO Sport for the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon are already available on the online shop.

1- Respect a period of progressiveness when you start again
The relaxation of December is good after a busy season in 2022. But it is also synonymous with a low volume training. In practice, a sudden and intense recovery can easily end in injury. Whatever plan triathletes follow, the principle of progressiveness is essential to limit the risks, to get off to a good start, without missing a step.
2- Take a review of the past season
Taking the time to analyse the past season is fundamental to achieving new objectives. Targeting the points to be improved, imagining solutions to continue to progress, remembering the positive points and the successes… The assessment should not be limited to a simple list of results: it is above all the sum of personal and sporting experiences. This approach can make the difference in managing your new campaign.
3- Plan your objectives in 2023
Good planning of objectives is the first step in a qualitative return. Distinguishing between main and intermediate objectives helps to visualise the season in its broadest sense. Subsequently, it will be necessary to articulate the periods of professional and family travel and holidays to adjust the planning.
It is important to give the brain as many time references as possible so that it can programme the high and low points of your preparation independently. Generally, passion leads us to forget the extra-sporting side of our practice and yet it is often through this that our objective escapes us.
4- Set a realistic goal
The concept of performance is essentially based on the right choice of objective. A goal that is too high affects motivation and generates frustration because it systematically leads to failure. On the contrary, a goal that is too accessible does not allow you to leave your comfort zone. If the sport project is too easy to achieve, no progress is possible, but even worse: the experience will be neither stimulating nor exciting. The solution therefore lies in balancing realism and ambition!
5- Diversify your activities
January is the perfect time to build up general fitness and strengthen your muscles, tendons, joints, heart, coordination, balance and flexibility.
This is THE time of year to mix it up and explore new pleasures by venturing into unknown territory: trail running, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, proprioception, yoga, etc. Triathletes should be the first to understand the benefits of combining different disciplines!
How can IDO Sport help you prepare for the Alpe d'Huez Triathlon?
The training plans available on the iDO Sport application for the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon (Duathlon, Triathlon L and Triathlon M) have been carefully prepared by MyTRIBE coaches Charlotte Morel and Frédéric Belaubre.
This plan alternates periods of development with periods of recovery: it respects the principle of progressiveness to avoid injury. The intensities are variable and precisely calculated.
Each iDO Sport user triathlete can manage his or her planning by entering his or her main and intermediate objectives on the iDO interactive race calendar.
