What to eat 3 days before your triathlon?

Triathlon is a very demanding discipline for the organism. The body is severely tested, so it is normal to manage your nutritional strategy as well as possible before an important competition.

3 days before the event, plan an energy recharge to store a maximum of calories. MALTO Antioxidant is an energy refill solution that allows you to :

  • Hydrate you with 1.5 litres of water and carbohydrates per day for 3 days before the event.
  • Give you easily digestible and perfectly assimilated calories. 1.5 litres of MALTO Antioxidant provides you with approximately 560 calories.
  • Avoid mistakes. With the maltodextrin refill, you don’t have to change your usual diet or eat more. The carbohydrates in the drink are also very well absorbed because they are absorbed in liquid form.

What should be my last meal before a triathlon?

Your last meal should provide you with fuel for the effort, without overloading your digestive system.

For more than 40 years, OVERSTIM.s has been accompanying all endurance athletes with GATOSPORT. This highly energetic and easily digestible cake is quick and easy to prepare.

It replaces your last meal before the triathlon and provides you with more than 500 calories that are easily assimilated. It is consumed about 1 hour before the start (you won’t have to get up 3 hours before your competition to eat a classic breakfast).

Tip n°1: professional triathletes consume GATOSPORT even during their warm-up. You can consume it in the start locker room to give your body energy until the start of the swim.

Tip n°2: Remember to take the time to chew each bite of GATOSPORT to digest it perfectly before your competition.

Swimming: what to eat before and after?

As you have just read, you can consume GATOSPORT in small bites just before the swimming part. However, some athletes prefer to stop consuming GATOSPORT one hour before the start of the event and take an antioxidant energy gel just before entering the water.

Cycling: how to hydrate and eat on the bike?

For the bike part, you will need :

  • One or two 800ml bottles (depending on the size of the sort: 1 bottle for S and M formats and 2 bottles for L and XXL formats) containing a Hydrixir Antioxidant type energy drink. Keep the water pure for the refreshments.
  • A complementary energy supply, rather in semi-liquid form for the S and M formats (Ideally you will consume an Energix gel).
  • For the L and XXL sizes you can mix your food intake with gels, bars (sweet or salty), or other Overstim.s products of different textures.

How to hydrate during a triathlon

During the transition between the swim and the bike, you have no time to lose. Once the wetsuit is off and the shoes are clipped on, it’s time to pedal. Once you are well settled on the bike after 5-10 minutes, take an Energix energy gel and then two sips of Hydrixir Antioxidant energy drink.

For cycling events of 80 to 180 km, you should then alternate between different energy gels and bars, taking one every 45 minutes or so. You can also break up your intake with Energy Balls (consume two every 20 minutes or so: this will facilitate the chewing effort and offer you better digestion).

Tip: remember to take Hydrixir Antioxidant in stick format so that you can easily prepare a new energy drink bottle for the longest races.

Running: what strategy should you use to maintain your performance until the end?

When running, choose the most suitable sports nutrition products:

Again, remember to consume 1 gel or 1 bar approximately every 45 minutes. For hydration, drink 1 to 2 full sips of energy drink every 10-15 minutes and rinse your mouth with pure water when necessary.

At the end of the run, take a Coup de fouet energy gel at 1 hour from the end of the run and a Red Tonic energy gel (a classic from the Overstim.s product range) at 15-20 minutes from the very end of the event. These two instant energy gels will help you to keep pushing until the end while ensuring maximum energy output.

Recovery: our best solution after your training and competition

Elite Recovery Drink is the drink designed 100% for energy and muscle recovery. It is consumed directly after an effort (training or competition).

Most athletes use it during the last month of physical preparation before a triathlon competition.

Dilute 1 stick in 500 ml of water, and drink the drink slowly in small sips directly after the effort.
